What is counselling?

Counseling is a supportive and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges with a trained professional. It’s a process that helps you gain clarity, build resilience, and discover practical tools to navigate life’s difficulties. Whether you’re experiencing anxiety, burnout, or simply feeling stuck, counseling offers a safe space to work through it.

How Can Counseling Help You?

Counseling can:

  • Help you manage anxiety and stress.

  • Improve your self-confidence and self-awareness.

  • Support you through major life transitions or relationship challenges.

  • Offer clarity when you feel lost or overwhelmed.

  • Provide you with practical strategies to help you cope better with stress or anxiety.
  • Be a safe space to explore how you feel with somebody who “gets you” and is on your side.

my approach to counselling

Hi, I’m Anna and I have been practicing counselling now for more than 4 years.  I came into counselling after a struggle with anxiety myself so I really understand how challenging it can be to seek support and get help.

I have trained in a few methods of counselling namely Person Centred Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which means I can tailor our work together to suit your needs.  For a bit about each method read on….

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT focuses on helping you live a meaningful life by aligning your actions with your values. It encourages acceptance of difficult emotions while fostering mindfulness and resilience.  This is especially helpful for people with anxiety as often anxiety causes a cycle where you become anxious about being anxious.   Anxiety is a helpful emotion to have (it keeps you safe) so you don’t want to eradicate it but change your relationship with it so it’s useful to you rather than taking over.  ACT helps you to be able to feel anxiety but still cope with it.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps you identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours. By exploring the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and actions, you can develop healthier ways to cope and respond to life’s challenges. CBT is a proven approach for managing anxiety, stress, and self-doubt.

Person-Centered Therapy

At the heart of person-centered therapy is the belief that you are the expert in your own life. This approach creates a non-judgmental, empathetic environment where you feel safe to explore your emotions and experiences. It’s about empowering you to find your own solutions and grow at your own pace.

Don’t feel worried if you don’t know exactly what approach you’d like – we can talk about this on your first session and taking into account your goals and preferences we can work to use the techniques and strategies that will benefit you the most.
